Let’s go further. The 2009 Yankee right-handed batters hit .286 against lefties. This year’s model features righties hitting just .269 against lefties. The entire Yankee lineup hit .286 against lefties last year with a .480 slugging percentage; this year that number is down to a .259 BA with a .429 slugging percentage. Makes you wonder where the Yankees would be without Marcus Thames’s .315 BA and .468 slugging percentage.

The 2 standard Hall of Fame forecasting methods on Baseball Reference are split. The Hall of Fame Monitor score for Posada is 112 with 100 the threshold for a Hall of Famer. However, the Hall of Fame Standard has the average Famer at 50. Posada’s score is 42.

Normally teams that succeed as well as the Yankees did last year don’t perform so much maintenance on their roster, but apparently, the Yankees felt complacency wasn’t an option. The question is now, as we draw closer to “Pitcher & Catchers Reporting”, with all the changes, are the Yankees a better team than they were 3 months ago?
